The Evernighties Blog challenge

#evernighties

I'm taking part (or at least attempting to) in the 52 week blog challenge alongside many other Evernight-publishing authors. Starting today, each Thursday we'll blog on a different topic using #evernighties. I hope you all enjoy these posts, and without further ado, post number 1....

Favorite thing I've written....

I don't know whether it's good or bad that I find that question easy to answer, but Adrenaline Jake is my favorite thing I've done (so far).

It may not have the strongest plot, or be an example of my best writing (here's hoping I've improved) but I liked writing it more than anything else.

Irritating, compulsive, naive, reckless (no, I'm not talking about myself) Jake is one of the most enjoyable characters I've ever had the pleasure of writing, and paired against the dominate, broody, often grumpy, Maddox, it worked for me.

The idea actually came from an au stucky fanfic I wrote called, Yours for the Taking.

Jake was inspired by Bucky and Maddox by Steve. In the fanfic version there wasn't a stolen diamond, but a stolen painting. Bucky was a womaniser, and Steve a gangster, thrown together, the powers of fanfic writing sparked fireworks, and ten chapters of tension, and smut followed.

This painting to be exact

Adrenaline Jake lost the painting, and the womaniser, and in stepped the adrenaline junkie, and the blue diamond. (Think titanic, but much, much smaller)

I changed the idea because a) I didn't want it to be a carbon copy of the fanfic, and b) trying to conceal a Mondrian painting would've been no easy feat. A diamond is far easier to hide in a jacket and move from place to place (not that I'd know). In the fanfic I...overlooked these difficulties, along with others...(Lube, GFY, Non-con)

Jake evolved into a new character, as did Maddox, and I continue to add to their story. There's no romantic 'I love you' declarations between the two, but their mutual desire, and affection for each other comes through when they find themselves in difficult times.

In the last novella, I left them on a cliffhanger, (The equivalent of slapping a reader in the face) and I need to get back to them ASAP.

The next one in the series will be called, 'Diamond in the Rough', 'Painting in the rough' just didn't have the same ring to it...
